Sometimes you wind up exactly where you’re supposed to be.
Last night I worked overnight on some activities. This has become my Thursday night thing.
At one of my stores I was looking for a large shipment that hadn’t come in yet and asked one of the new guys who was the manager on duty and this led me to the wrong person for the job but the person I was supposed to meet.
I won’t name her but as I approached and said “Ma’am” to get her attention I figured she had earbuds in. Nope, just being a butthole and ignoring me.
Nope. Turns out she was deaf.
Now who’s the butthole?
In this version of me in retail I have never encountered a dead associate. But I’m ready. My daughter suffers from high range hearing loss and has to wear hearing aids as a result.
For this let’s just call the lady I met, E.
E told me that she had lost hear hearing quite recently due to a bout with meningitis. I know this can happen. It’s shocking how quickly we can lose one of our senses.
She and I talked several times throughout the course of the night. She’s trying to learn ASL but doesn’t know a good resource. I know several good resources, as does my wife.
E is just out there trying to find a good, safe job for herself with her particular condition.
She certainly isn’t letting it slow her down. She has every reason to sit at home and draw a check from disability I am sure.
But she ain’t. She’s making her own way.
Too long didn’t read?
Last night I ended up where I was supposed to be and made a new friend along the way. Someone that maybe I can help.
This is what life is about. Help where you can along the way. It ain’t about just you.
That’s it. That’s the post.
