Little Things

My wife loves spicy food. So much so that she’ll get a plate of spicy food and that’s not enough for her.

Nope. Then she’ll go to her standby. Texas Pete.

He’s the only other fella that’s any competition for me in life besides our son.

I don’t like spicy foods much. I might throw some Texas Pete on a burrito.

I do admit that Texas Pete rode with me in the army just in case I came upon some chili mac, which was likely to happen.

I got off work today around 1:00 and decided I’d go for a ride and make sure the truck was good. A long ride was needed. Maybe just wanted.

I was riding along and looking for places that might have a junked Ranger.

I need a few interior parts. Some plastic odds and ends. The interior is pretty great, amazingly. No tears in the seats. The dash and carpet are nearly pristine.

On down the road I ended up in a nearly ten mile long construction zone. I started counting Dollar Generals.

I also ended up in need of a bathroom.

My wife loves something else. Those little Smarties Mega Lollipops.

We usually find them at a candy store in Maggie Valley on vacation where she buys several. She doesn’t allow herself many treats like that. I’ve found them at Dollar General here and there so I grab them when I can.

They’ve been sparse lately, like lots of things y’all might favor the last year and some change.

I hit several Dollar Generals on the way today. Six in total. Found three of these suckers on the way at one store. Still stopped at two more.

I don’t know why.

It makes her happy.

I guess it’s love.

It’s the little things.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Ghost Cat

Before Fibble and Geisel we had Smoky and Ashley.

Smoky on the left, Ashley on the right.

Sadly, as pets do, they’ve both passed on now.

Now, I love all my kids equally, but Ashley was without a doubt my cat, as much as any cat can be anyone else’s. I was her human is probably the correct way to put it. I was her favorite human. She was always by my side, much like Fibble is now.

I loved that little cat, so much so that when we changed living room furniture I had to find a chair that wasn’t just comfortable for me but for Ashley as well. She always laid at my left shoulder. (Wow, Sam! On your left!) So I would look for a chair that had a cushion where she could make her spot.

I hadn’t realized until just now that Fibble does the same thing. She likes to lay on my left. This chair is a lot higher so it’s probably a β€œlooking down on the mere human” type of thing.

I’ve been watching Fibble lately, she has developed some nerve issues in her back. Not really bad, just sensitive enough to make her a little edgy. I’ll catch her out of the corner of my eye in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc. and I just watch to make sure that everything’s okay. She is very important to me, she gives me comfort, and I want to return that favor.

Here’s the thing though.

I’ll see her out of the corner of my eye in the kitchen and then walk into the living room and she’s asleep in our chair. This is all in the space of ten seconds.

That’s not Fibble I’m catching out of the corner of my eye sometimes. It’s Ashley.

It sounds crazy. I sound crazy. But this does happen.

Fibble in her night spot.

I think what I’ve got is a guardian angel. She’s just helping Fibble, her younger sister, watch over me.

I’m okay with that.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Nov. 3

I’m watching states being called for a candidate by the media and the numbers literally aren’t adding up.

We can’t trust the media when they’ve become the PR wing of one party over another. There are very few talking heads that I’ll listen to anymore. I’m done with the mainstream media.

Okay. I’ll listen to him.

But They Live is looking more and more like a documentary rather than the B-Movie masterpiece that it is.

Tomorrow is another day. Regardless of who is POTUS, if you knew nothing of such things, your day to day life would probably change very little.

Live and be happy. Love who loves you and enjoy the short bit of time we have on this earth.

Your homework this evening is to watch They Live if you’ve never seen it. (Even if you have, watch it again.)

That’s it. That’s the post.
