The Final kNight

This was the last big show of the year. It’s my opinion, and it’s incredibly personal to me, so it’s most definitely skewed is that this show would have won one of those medals up for grabs at state.

I haven’t had the opportunity to see the entire show. I was sick for a bit and missed a couple of Saturday’s. Then the wide was sick.

Then the band had several kids down and sick with covid, and others were quarantined due to close contact so they had to miss state competitions.

The only regret I feel is for the seniors. They lost two years out of this with the tornado and covid.

But they all came across as supportive of the younger kids and told them how impressed they were and happy that they all came together. They’re family.

All in all, not a bad year.

Sometimes you can’t count wins in trophies and medals.

These kids are the North Central Silver Knights Marching Band. Two of them are mine by blood, and my wife has pretty much adopted the rest of them. By no fault of my own, I have a lot of kids I watch over in a way. And I could not be prouder.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Friday Knight Lights

I’m writing something right now that has nothing to do with what my wife just sent me.

My daughter is in her junior year in high school.

She has been in the marching band for almost five years. She plays trumpet and mellophone.

My son is in the sixth grade. This year he was invited to try out for the high school marching band. He went for percussion. He made it.

There are some definite benefits to the discipline that marching band gives both of them.

There is a pride that I have watching both of them develop over the past couple of years and this year.

My two Silver Knights.

I wrote the other night that marching band season and competition are over for the band this year. And it is.

Plans are in the works, though. People have some big aspirations for next year, and I wish them all they hope for.

Win or lose, it’s all about the journey.

It’s dusty in here.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Done

Today was a competition day for the bandβ€”another sweep of first place and a superior rating. Well earned, well deserved.

North Central Silver Knights

So I’ve been on the run since 4:00 AM.

Various things have kept me running. The band, the wife, car stuff.

I am mentally and physically exhausted.

I may have pushed myself to the point if heat exhaustion and a possible pulled pec muscle. If I had pecs.

I’ma go pass out.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Friday Night Lights – Homecoming 2021

As I’ve said before, I’m here for the band. But I found myself getting into the sportsball a little tonight.

I even slipped and let the wife figure out after twenty-six years together that I actually know some of the terminology.

Oops.

I loved the opening of the game tonight.

I do enjoy Friday nights though I rarely stay much past halftime. The band has done their thing, and I need to rest.

Tomorrow is another competition day for the band and I am all in.

As far as drug behind the bus kick and screaming can be counted as all in. 😏

I do have fun. It just doesn’t show on my face.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Friday Knights

I spent the last part of the evening with the band at the school, getting a few videos and pics.

For the first week of band camp and with so many new members, their sound is excellent. Their movement in marching looks excellent as well. I’m not as picky as the band director. πŸ˜‰

I know; it’s his job to be picky. That bronze and silver state medal aren’t hanging there waiting for the gold to join them because he’s easy on them.

I want him to know that they wouldn’t be the band they are without him. He’s the reason there’s a marching band program.

My two.

I’m partial to the the mellophone and percussion sections this year. One child in each.

It has been a long week for all four of us. Eight-hour workdays all around. It’s a good thing for all of us but hard on Sam. He has never had to put in this kind of effort for something like marching band. But he’s enjoying it.

Logan is in her zone. I love seeing her this passionate over something. It’s her thing.

It’s late. I’m tired.

That’s it. That’s the post.

I’m With The Band

I’ve just spent the better part of the afternoon/evening recording my daughter (and soon to be sons) marching band.

They had their spring concert tonight.

My daughter has been with the band for the last five years. My son has decided, after much research and sensible thinking, that sports are not for him. No, band seems much safer.

Until tonight when he was helping load the trailer and took a spill. Some hard road rash. There’s danger in everything if you’re unlucky enough.

Ouch.

But he’ll be okay.

For now we’re looking at an exciting future of band stuff. It ain’t all fun. There’s a lot of hard work ahead.

But he’s up to it, just like his sister was.

Marching band has been one of the best things my daughter ever got into. It built her confidence and it has given her strength. And it has given her a family outside of family.

First time.

He even got to take the stage with the band tonight to help out. It was kind of an initiation. Tryouts are next month. We shall see.

That’s it. That’s the post.

NCHS SILVER KNIGHTS

This morning we attended the Kershaw County High Schools Marching Band Exhibition.

With everything going on what with Covid and all there, sadly, won’t be any competitions this year.

Lugoff Elgin High School kindly hosted this exhibition for the other bands and so that the parents could at least see the hard work the students are putting in.

My daughter is in the band (hey Logan!) and her brother and I kind of miss the competitions. I like seeing who they’re up against as well.

All the bands did great today but I don’t have the bandwidth to sit on all day and upload all the performances.

I know. I’m partial to the Silver Knights. But hey, I’m with the band.

At least, for a change, this is something dealing with NCHS and what they’re doing while away from home instead of the demolition.

The football team isn’t too shabby this year either as Andrew Jackson and Buford High Schools can tell you.

Banished from the Castle the Knights will fight their way back home.
