Done

Today was a competition day for the bandβ€”another sweep of first place and a superior rating. Well earned, well deserved.

North Central Silver Knights

So I’ve been on the run since 4:00 AM.

Various things have kept me running. The band, the wife, car stuff.

I am mentally and physically exhausted.

I may have pushed myself to the point if heat exhaustion and a possible pulled pec muscle. If I had pecs.

I’ma go pass out.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Friday Night Lights – Homecoming 2021

As I’ve said before, I’m here for the band. But I found myself getting into the sportsball a little tonight.

I even slipped and let the wife figure out after twenty-six years together that I actually know some of the terminology.

Oops.

I loved the opening of the game tonight.

I do enjoy Friday nights though I rarely stay much past halftime. The band has done their thing, and I need to rest.

Tomorrow is another competition day for the band and I am all in.

As far as drug behind the bus kick and screaming can be counted as all in. 😏

I do have fun. It just doesn’t show on my face.

That’s it. That’s the post.

It’S FrIDaY!

Just off the Robert W. Williams Interchange in beautiful Florence, SC.

It’s Friday morning. I’m back on the special project we are working on for another company.

I started this morning in general merchandise/grocery. I walked into a manager having a nervous breakdown; I checked in and went straight to work. Retail is hard, but…

It has been a long day. I’m back home now sitting here with Ms. Fibble.

Time to shower, eat, watch some TV, AND THEN…hit the road again.

Tonight is Friday. Tonight is the first home football game of the season.

I’m excited!

Is there anything more free than a Friday night high school football game? It’s just so American. The football team, rooting for your favorite, the food, the cheerleaders chanting on the sideline.

I’m not a sportsball guy at all.

I’m there for the band. And my two kids.

More later. Most definitely.

That’s it. That’s the post.

First Day And Accomplishments

It’s only August 5th, and the kids are already going back to school. It is way too early for school. Summer isn’t over. We used to get out in May and go back after Labor Day.

I wouldn’t say I like this.

I now have a sixth-grader and a junior in High School.

I am getting old.

I wouldn’t say I like this.

Both of the kids are in the High School marching band and I am extremely proud of both of them.

Logan shines in the band. It’s her thing. I have never seen such a change come over a person when they take the field. She goes to battleβ€”a completely different kid from her usual laid-back self.

Sam was invited to try out for the high school band this year (he’s a sixth-grader), and he made it. He’s in the percussion section. Today was the first day of middle school.

He’s in middle school band class with a couple of kids from his elementary. One of them is Mallory, with who he has been in a rivalry since kindergarten. Grades, sports, etc.

She is a pretty thorn in his side.

He was talking about band class and mentioned that Mallory was in that class with him.

I look over and say, β€œSam, you did it. You beat Mallory. You’re in the high school band!”

He’s been walking around the house grinning like an idiot for the last thirty minutes. β€œI did it! I’ma have a celebratory donut!”

Celebratory Donut

You take the losses with a good attitude. But everyone should celebrate themselves every once in a while.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Friday Knights

I spent the last part of the evening with the band at the school, getting a few videos and pics.

For the first week of band camp and with so many new members, their sound is excellent. Their movement in marching looks excellent as well. I’m not as picky as the band director. πŸ˜‰

I know; it’s his job to be picky. That bronze and silver state medal aren’t hanging there waiting for the gold to join them because he’s easy on them.

I want him to know that they wouldn’t be the band they are without him. He’s the reason there’s a marching band program.

My two.

I’m partial to the the mellophone and percussion sections this year. One child in each.

It has been a long week for all four of us. Eight-hour workdays all around. It’s a good thing for all of us but hard on Sam. He has never had to put in this kind of effort for something like marching band. But he’s enjoying it.

Logan is in her zone. I love seeing her this passionate over something. It’s her thing.

It’s late. I’m tired.

That’s it. That’s the post.

I’m With The Band…Indefinitely

My eldest found a love for the marching band and is entering her fourth year as a member.

She in turn has infected my youngest. I joke. I can’t blame her.

It’s her mother’s fault.

This week is marching band tryouts. He is the only fifth grader invited to tryouts. Do you see that face?

Now don’t get me wrong, he’s basically a happy kid. He’s shielded somewhat from what the world really is right now. We’re trying to shield him from it as much as possible.

But that face there is pure joy. I saw it on his sisters face when she found her place with the band.

It has been so good for her. That sense of belonging has given her confidence. It has also given her a sense of responsibility and a group to be loyal to outside of family.

And now he joins this group.

Hopefully.

Like I posted on IG:

This week works out favorable and I’m sΜΆtΜΆuΜΆcΜΆkΜΆ happy to enjoy another six years as a band parent. #northcentralsilverknights

Tryouts aren’t over.

That’s it. That’s the post.

I’m With The Band

I’ve just spent the better part of the afternoon/evening recording my daughter (and soon to be sons) marching band.

They had their spring concert tonight.

My daughter has been with the band for the last five years. My son has decided, after much research and sensible thinking, that sports are not for him. No, band seems much safer.

Until tonight when he was helping load the trailer and took a spill. Some hard road rash. There’s danger in everything if you’re unlucky enough.

Ouch.

But he’ll be okay.

For now we’re looking at an exciting future of band stuff. It ain’t all fun. There’s a lot of hard work ahead.

But he’s up to it, just like his sister was.

Marching band has been one of the best things my daughter ever got into. It built her confidence and it has given her strength. And it has given her a family outside of family.

First time.

He even got to take the stage with the band tonight to help out. It was kind of an initiation. Tryouts are next month. We shall see.

That’s it. That’s the post.
